Event videography is more than just showing up with a camera. It is the craft of capturing live events in a way that tells a complete story from beginning to end. Whether it is a wedding, a corporate seminar, a festival, or a workshop, event videographers adapt their style and approach to fit the needs of each occasion.
Event videography is not a one size fits all service. Weddings, corporate events, festivals, and workshops all require different strategies. A wedding videographer might focus on intimate details and emotional storytelling, while a corporate videographer highlights keynote presentations and professional networking. Large scale events such as festivals require wide coverage, fast adjustments, and creative visuals to capture the atmosphere.
Clear communication is at the heart of successful event videography. Every production relies on a designated point of contact from the client side who communicates run of show changes. Events are unpredictable, and last minute schedule shifts are common. Having a direct line of communication allows the videographer or production crew to adapt quickly and capture important moments without disruption.
At Firebrand Media, we emphasize that scope of work, deliverables, and responsibilities are always defined in advance. This ensures that both the client and production team are aligned, reducing chaos on event day.
A strong event video is not made by one angle alone. Videographers constantly swap lenses, adjust frame rates, and experiment with creative techniques. This could include ultra slow motion footage at 120 frames per second in 4K, stylistic undercranked clips, or wide angle perspectives that show the scale of a venue. These choices add variety and keep the final production engaging.
Event videography provides more than memories, it creates assets for future marketing, training, and promotion. For weddings, it preserves the emotions and highlights of the day. For corporate events, it produces content that can be shared internally, used in advertising, or repurposed for social media. For festivals and concerts, it showcases the energy and scale of the event, helping organizers attract bigger audiences in the future.
In every case, professional videography elevates the value of the event by capturing it in a polished, engaging, and meaningful way.
While a single event videographer may work solo, an event production company brings a full team with specialized roles. A production company can handle lighting, streaming, multi camera setups, and additional services such as photography or headshots. Videographers tend to be nimble and quick, while production companies provide a broader arsenal of tools and people.
Both approaches have value. A solo videographer may be more affordable and less intrusive, while a production company is ideal for large scale events that require coverage across multiple rooms, stages, or functions.
Event videography is a balance of artistry, technical skill, and adaptability. From wide crowd shots to intimate close ups, from small gatherings to massive stages, it is about telling the full story of an event in a way that resonates with audiences. By following structured approaches like BME and WMC, working closely with organizers, and adapting on the fly, professional event videographers ensure that no important moment is missed.
If you are planning an event and want to capture it with precision and creativity, working with a professional videographer or production company is one of the best investments you can make.

Speaker1: [00:00:00] Hey guys. My name is Jay over at Firebrand Media. And today we're going to talk about what is event videography. So that's a really good question. It's not it's not an umbrella and catch all phrase because you have your wedding videographers, you have your your cinematographers, you have your producers, you have XYZ, you have your event videographers, you have your corporate event videographers. They're all different. In my time shooting or, you know, creating, building firebrand media and shooting events, I can say it's taking me all over the country to shoot all kinds of cool things. You know, an event videography for an event could look like Soca fest. I did Soca Fest in 2019 where I was on a stage in Miami and I had over I could, well assume was over five, 10,000 people in front of me jumping at the same time, making the stage shake, which was super insane to an event where we're in a corporate ballroom with a multifamily developer seminar, and that event requires a certain level of decorum and respect for the event in that were not to be intrusive. And and it's more, you know, talking heads or let's say like a wedding. We've done an event, a wedding where there's several elements of the production and it's, you know, life on fire type, a life on type, life on fire experience where you're trying to run around and capture certain elements for the recap of that wedding and making a wedding film.
Speaker1: [00:01:28] So all require you to think differently and wear different hats. As an event videographer, whether you're on a main stage of a of a mega festival, or you're in a corporate ballroom or you're at a wedding, you know, or or vice versa, workshops or such, you you got to tackle them a little bit differently. But they all have a baseline and common event videographers focus on the BME, WMC okay, what is that BME, WMC, WMC, the BME is the being middle end of an event. Can you cover it and take it back to post and have them look at it, digest the content and make sense of it without hearing a lick of audio? They should be able to look at that archive that you've shot and see it and go, oh, wow, I can tell where it was, where it's at, where it's going and how it ended. And, and generally feel the sentiment from, from the raw archive. The wide medium close up there. Wmc focuses on each column of the BME beginning, middle, end. We want to capture the wide medium closeup of each of each part of the event. An event has an A to Z, it starts and it ends. But covering that event and doing it effectively, it is an event videographer, an event production companies or as an event production company is important.
Speaker1: [00:02:42] You want to focus on maintaining that flow so that it goes back to the post-production, and everybody can make sense of it. When you're shooting wide, medium close up shots, we're diversifying the lenses, we're swapping lenses, we're changing frame rates, we're doing over cranked footage. Maybe we're under cranking the footage for stylistic approaches. Maybe one you want to shoot 120, you know, 4K. We want to do ultra slo mo footage. It's all appropriate for its purposes and a great way to diversify that content on wide medium closure across beginning middle end of an event is by changing the lenses, changing the settings in camera and getting a little creative with it. Getting comfortable with it. Event videographers typically are fast on their feet. They're pretty nimble. But there's a little difference between them and a production company. So an event production company comes with a full arsenal of tools and people that wear different hats and do different functions and different things. They specialize maybe in setting up lighting for media day and also tackling mainstage while also carrying a stream and doing a headshot portfolio for the whole company. At an event where as a, a a event, a event videographer may shoot just, you know, shoot the event from, from beginning to end and they follow the crowd or run a show per the point of contact from the company that's represented.
Speaker1: [00:04:06] Event videography can be complicated, but it could also be very smooth. Communication is one of the biggest factors of event videography. Meaning that that point of contact that's that's written into the proposal. That's what we do at Firebird Media is that we designate roles and responsibilities. Deliverable expectations as well as scope of work. Those are in, in, in tandem bind are binded by the relationship we have with the point of contact. So having someone that represents the company on site that we're shooting for to help us understand the run of show changes, where they will happen because all events are chaotic. Is super helpful when making 180 changes with a large team or let's say a small team or a solo person. Event videography is is what it is. It's a diversified approach to shooting you know, to shooting an event. It's it's not complicated, but it can be complicated if not done right. So that's a little bit about what is event videography.
